Terms of Use

These terms apply whenever Los Altos Residents Directory is used. Accessing or using the pages means the user accepts these conditions; anyone who does not accept them should leave the site.

1. What This Website Is

Los Altos Residents Directory is a private reference service. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical collections concerning Los Altos, California, including sources held by Santa Clara County offices. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with a records office, court, library, or agency.

2. Permitted and Prohibited Uses

Use these pages only in a lawful manner. Neither the pages nor anything reached through them may be used to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make a decision regulated by the FCRA, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish the pages at scale
  • Attack, disrupt, or bypass the site’s operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency Status

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. The pages and any linked search result are not consumer reports. They may not be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.

4. Outside Links and Tools

Government portals and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, set their own terms and privacy rules. Los Altos Residents Directory is not responsible for an outside service’s content, availability, charges, or data handling.

5. Disclaimers of Warranty

The pages are supplied “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that content is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will operate or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from the pages or an outside resource, including a decision based on a record found through them.

7. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from claims or demands, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that result from misuse of the service or a breach of these terms.

8. Copyright and Site Materials

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a short attributed excerpt is welcome; republishing full pages or systematically copying the material is not.

9. Changes

A new version may be posted here from time to time. Continued use after the change takes effect means the revised terms are accepted.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a person who violates these terms or abuses the service, at the operators’ discretion and without advance notice.

11. California Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The public-record references concern the California Public Records Act, Government Code §7920.000 et seq., including the determination rules in §7922.535; that statute governs agency records, not this private reference service. Privacy questions are addressed by California’s CCPA/CPRA, Civil Code §§1798.100-1798.199.100, as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Severability

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

13. Contact
